HISTORY REVISITED

Nina Laycook Becomes Kanab Mayor-Elect

You couldn't ask for a more scenic locale in which to establish a city.  Surrounded by national parks and national monuments, which include some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth, Kanab, Utah is unique.  So is the city's history ~ rising from a desert farming community to become a favorite movie location known as Utah's "Little Hollywood" and a tourist destination for visiting the surrounding National Parks.  Not to be left out, Kanab's city government has it's own unique history.  In 1911, November 11, 1911 to be exact, the town of Kanab elected an all female town council.  Upset with the men for not running the town the way they thought it should be run and being told to "run it yourselves", someone put their names on the ballot as a joke.  When no one ran against them, they became the first all woman town council.  Many civic improvements were completed during their tenure in office including prohibiting livestock from running loose in the streets to surveying and platting the cemetery.

Nina Laycook, current City Council member, has been elected as the next Kanab City mayor.  The Democrat opponent running against her dropped out of the race and as there are no other candidates in the race, Nina has become the Mayor Elect.  Even though Nina won't repeat the 11/11/11 election date, she is repeating a slice of Kanab's history and we trust that Nina, and the rest of the City Council, will keep that livestock from running loose in the streets!

Congratulations Nina!
