Brian King Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Salt Lake City, UT (09/13/2024) -
Today, Utah GOP Chairman Rob Axson congratulated Governor Spencer Cox on his winning performance in the debate hosted by the Utah Debate Commission earlier this week.
"It's clear that the Governor and Lt. Governor are focused on ensuring that Utah remains prosperous through conservative leadership. Sadly, the Governor's opponent, Brian King, has a track record of extreme views on a number of issues, including abortion and energy production. For example, we recently learned of a video from the 2017 General Legislative Session in which Representative Brian King shared the following comments during a floor debate on abortion: "I don't want to hear anyone stand up here and talk to me about 'babies' or 'killing babies.' What we're talking about are zygotes and embryos and fetuses." King continued, "When I hear an individual refer to an unborn child as a baby, I know immediately they're not to be taken seriously." The bill being debated at the time was H.B. 141, "Unborn Child Protection Amendments." The clip can be found here: https://x.com/UtahGOP/status/1834716711733674205 Rob Axson continued, "As a party, we will do everything we can to protect the unborn. We appreciate Governor Spencer Cox's efforts to protect life, including the signing of HB467 in 2023, which limits the expansion of abortion clinics in Utah. As demonstrated by this video, Representative King doesn't share those views. He opposes the protection of the unborn and even goes so far as to police the words we can say while discussing them. King's policy and rhetoric might have a place in California, but it doesn't belong here in Utah." To see a report card on Brian King and Governor Spencer Cox, please click here. |
