RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT SHERIFFS AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IN SUPPORTING ICE

WHEREAS the Utah Republican Party Platform declares: “We support the ‘Rule of Law’ and believe in upholding the law of the land.” and “We support the Constitutional mandate to protect and secure our national borders.”; and
WHEREAS President Donald J. Trump has restored the commitment of the United States of America and the Republican Party to supporting the rule of law and secure borders by strictly enforcing our immigration laws and by detaining and deporting illegal aliens who have violated our laws; and
WHEREAS during the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 66,463 illegal aliens and removed 65,682 aliens, including criminals who threaten public safety and national security; and
WHEREAS three in four ICE arrests were criminal illegal aliens, putting the worst offenders first in the deportation process; and
WHEREAS the 287(g) program is an ICE initiative that allows state and local law enforcement agencies to partner with ICE to identify and process illegal aliens and to authorize law enforcement officers to be trained to perform some immigration law enforcement functions; and
WHEREAS a number of Utah’s Sheriff’s Offices have entered into 287(g) agreements with ICE to assist in enforcing the law and incarcerating arrestees, and other Utah Sheriff’s Offices are in the process of doing so; and
WHEREAS the Sheriff’s Offices that are participating in this program report that it benefits the citizens of their Counties by improving public safety; therefore
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That we, the State Central Committee of the Utah Republican Party, applaud the efforts of Utah Sheriffs and local law enforcement that cooperate with ICE in an effort to support our borders and immigration law. We encourage all of our sheriffs to do the same. We condemn lawless sanctuary status as a means to protect illegal aliens. We condemn government assistance and other incentives to encourage illegal immigration.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED We direct the Secretary of the Utah Republican Party to provide a copy of this Resolution, by September 17th 2025, to each of our Utah County Sheriff’s Offices, posted to our website, to Republicans across the State and to local and national media.
