State conventions are a cornerstone of the Utah Republican Party’s democratic process, bringing together delegates, party leaders, and grassroots members to make important decisions that shape the future of our party and state.
Types of Conventions
State Nominating Conventions
When: Even-numbered years
The State Nominating Convention is held to select Republican candidates for public office, including federal, state, and local positions. State delegates play a critical role in narrowing the field of candidates and determining which Republican contenders will represent the party on the ballot. This process ensures that our candidates reflect the values and priorities of Utah Republicans.
State Organizing Conventions
When: Odd-numbered years
The State Organizing Convention focuses on the internal leadership and structure of the Utah Republican Party. State delegates elect party officers, such as the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, and may consider amendments to the party’s Constitution and Bylaws. This convention ensures strong, effective leadership to guide the party forward.
Special Elections
When: As needed
Special elections may be called to address unforeseen vacancies in multi-county public office. These events ensure that the Utah Republican Party responds quickly and effectively to maintain representation and governance aligned with our principles.
How to Participate
Conventions are powered by state delegates elected during precinct caucuses. Becoming a delegate is one of the best ways to make your voice heard in the Utah Republican Party.
