Resolution: Justice and Accountability for the Political Assassination of Charlie Kirk

WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk, a national leader and tireless advocate for conservative values, was brutally assassinated on September 10, 2025, in Utah, in an attack that has shocked our state, our party, and our nation; and

WHEREAS, political violence has no place in America and any attempt to silence speech through intimidation, assault, or assassination is an attack on our Republic itself; and

WHEREAS, reports indicate serious failures in campus security at Utah Valley University where the attack occurred, leaving unanswered questions about the adequacy of safety protocols for invited speakers; and

WHEREAS, there remain unanswered questions about potential accomplices, escape routes, and radical influences that may have supported or enabled the assassin, requiring a full and transparent investigation; and

WHEREAS, the Republican Party of Utah has a duty to stand for truth, transparency, accountability, and the protection of free expression in every arena, including our universities; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Kirk’s life and work inspired a generation of young conservatives to rise in defense of faith, family, and freedom, and it is our duty to ensure his sacrifice is not in vain;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Utah Republican Party State Central Committee:

1. Condemnation of Violence
   • We unequivocally condemn the assassination of Charlie Kirk and all acts of political violence, regardless of motive or ideology.
     
     
2. Accountability & Transparency
   • We call upon state and federal law enforcement to provide timely, public updates into the investigation, including any evidence of accomplices, communications, or escape assistance.
   • We demand full accountability from every agency tasked with securing the public trust in this matter.
     
     
3. University Responsibility
   • We call for a statewide audit of security protocols for public universities, including Utah Valley University, and insist that future state funding be tied to demonstrated efforts to protect the safety of invited speakers.
     
     
4. Charlie Kirk Task Force
   • We urge the Governor and Legislature to establish the Charlie Kirk Task Force on Political Violence and Campus Safety, charged with investigating threats, monitoring extremist activity targeting political speech, and recommending preventative measures to safeguard free expression in Utah.
     
     
5. Commemoration
   • We honor Charlie Kirk’s legacy by committing to a moment of silence in his name at our next State Convention, and by pledging to continue his fight for faith, family, and freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Governor of Utah, the leadership of the Utah Legislature, the Utah Board of Higher Education, and the law enforcement agencies charged with investigating this attack.
