UTGOP State Convention Letter

Thank you for serving as a state delegate at the Utah Republican Party Nominating Convention on April 27th. This year, we have improved our voting processes to ensure that your vote is more secure, easier to audit, and quicker to count. Additionally, the State Central Committee updated our voting requirements, and we must comply with all of the new, stricter regulations required in our bylaws. We welcome those changes and believe they will increase confidence in the results and improve election integrity.

This year, all votes at the convention will be cast using Election Buddy, a trustworthy, reliable, auditable, and secure voting tool that has been used in elections nationwide, including in Utah. To vote, all you need is access to the internet through a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. You don't have to download anything. For those without access to a device, we will provide kiosks to facilitate voting.

There have been many questions about why we chose the voting method this year. In January, the Republican Party's governing body, the State Central Committee, updated the rules for voting by the convention. The new rules, found in 8.5.M.10, require the voting system to have the following features:

  1. Track and report on every ballot that is issued;
  2. Mark every ballot with a unique identifier that does not identify the voter, but can be recorded by the voter;
  3. Not associate, directly or indirectly, the voter with the unique identifier on the ballot;
  4. Detect and report fraudulent ballots;
  5. Report the vote(s) and unique identifier of every ballot;
  6. Be externally auditable, independent of the system.

Election Buddy is a secure and powerful system that guarantees the integrity of your vote. It ensures your ballot's anonymity, uniqueness, and auditability and detects and reports fraud.

For your security, only delegates credentialed at the convention in person will receive an access key to access the tool and vote.  To assist you in setting up your access key, please confirm your information:

If this information is incorrect, please immediately email [email protected] with your name, county, and the correct email or cell phone number. Upon receiving a correction email, the party will proceed with validating any new information.

We'll send a practice vote email to the above address (or to the corrected email). Follow the enclosed instructions to participate. Note that it differs from the convention vote. You won't receive your convention votes by email nor access to the vote until voting opens and you are provided the vote key. This test vote was created for you to see how the system works and be able to test how you can audit your own vote as well as the votes of all who participate.

Please spend quality time during the next week getting to know our amazing group of Republican candidates who are running this year. Also, please visit www.utgop.org for more information on the convention and candidates. Thank you for your willingness to serve.

Sincerely,

Dan Burton Nicki Brammer
